The SCA 98 Girls North, coached by Lance Welker, defeated the Sagebrush Rattlers 4-3 in the finals of the Zephyr Cup in Reno, NV which made for a great ending for this Father’s Day weekend! In the Championship game SCA was trailing 3-1 at half, but Symone Groll-Nevel put two more in the back of the net with assists by Eden Brooker. Then with about a minute left in the game, a handball in the box gave way for the surefire shot of Eden who put in the game winning goal! Goalie, Alice Gacegu, had a fantastic weekend with numerous saves that helped them go undefeated at the Zephyr Cup. The 98GN team was a scoring machine with 18 goals scored this weekend with an 8-0 win over Sierra Mountain Truckee (Alycia Garcia-1, Lulu Duplicki-2, Hannah Holden-2, Symone Groll-Nevel-3), 3-1 win over Santa Rosa United Frost (Symone-2, Eden Brooker-1) and 3-2 win over Santa Rosa United Fury (Symone- 2, Miranda Miles-1). They couldn’t have done it without the strong defense of Alycia Garcia, Lia Diaz, Ashley Dannenbring, Sarah Craig and Lulu Duplicki, the control of midfielders Haley Barker and Clara Constantini, and tenacity of forwards Emma Pierson, Hannah Holden and Miranda Miles. Great job 98 Girls North!
