SCA 99 Girls Black Finish Second in NorCal State Cup 2012!

The SCA 99 Girls Black Team, coached by Lee Summerscales, finished their season second in Northern California after they were defeated 4-1 by the number one-seeded DeAnza Force in the NorCal State Cup Championship game on Saturday, January 28 in Woodland.  The SCA team had previously defeated the second seeded Mustang Magic and the third seeded Santa Rosa United Ice to reach the championship game.  Midfielder Hannah De Voe scored SCA’s only goal with a high, hard kick over the goalie’s head into the left corner of the goal from about 18 yards out just before the end of the first half to make the score 2-1 at halftime.  Left wing Lauren Miller had an assist on the goal after stealing the ball from a DeAnza defender and passing it to De Voe.   Forwards Chanel Augustin, Amy Ferrick, Jennifer Massie, Anna Rossi, Miller and midfielders Eden Brooker and De Voe worked hard to create additional scoring opportunities for SCA in the second half but were unable to find the net.   SCA’s tenacious defense was anchored by midfielders Katie Johansen and Lily Munsee, defenders Bethan Brown, Lauren Friedlander, Alexis Gumanday, Markie McHugh, Sally Ziemer and goalie, Yasmin Sahagan, who had another terrific game in goal.  SCA’s defenders held DeAnza to two goals until the last ten minutes of the game, when DeAnza scored two goals in quick succession to put the game out of reach.  The underdog SCA team fought hard to the end and had their best finish ever in State Cup Competition.  Congratulations to the girls and their coach on a very successful season.
