As the game progressed, Amanda would be assisted by Jillian once again to make the final score 3-1, SCA. The third game of the day proved to be the toughest game. The girls were matched up against a very strong Fremont team. The first goal came from a beautiful long ball from goalie Delaney Frye and received by Amanda Galbraith who knew just what to do with the ball. Amanda would go on to complete three goals that day! Amanda was assisted by Jillian Van Riper and Julia Herrera to complete the match. The SCA girls depended heavily on a strong defense lead by Sierra Overton, Liza Bernard, Gabbi Lemos and Liz Woerner. The final score was 3-2 SCA. On Sunday morning the SCA girls were first place in the standings and faced single elimination games. They would be playing the eighth place team, which happened to be Sacramento United’s Starfire. Goals and assists came from Amanda and Liza, Gabbi and Amanda, Stephanie Mitchell and Delaney, Jillian and Madison, and Delaney and Jillian respectively. Final score 5-0 SCA. The second game of the day matched up SCA faced an unknown team, the CV Arsenal. This game would prove to be another tough and hard played match between two very good teams. With goals and assists from Gabbi Lemos and Stephanie Mitchell and Amanda and Jillian respectively, SCA moved onto the finals with a 2-1 win. Shortly after the celebration of moving into the finals, the girls learned that they would be facing their rivals, Elk Grove, in the Championship game. In the first half, after battling back and forth, up and down the field, SCA scored! Sierra Overton playing center mid, played a beautiful long ball to Amanda Galbraith who once again knew exactly what to do with the ball … putting it into the back of the net! Elk Grove, not wasting any time, scored to tie the game. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and SCA and Elk Grove moved into the first overtime period. Overtime starts, the teams on the field are frantic to score a goal, but the defensive players don’t allow it. Then, as had occurred all weekend long, Jillian Van Riper assists Amanda Galbraith, to score the first goal of the overtime! Overtime ended and the final score was 2-1 SCA. The girls win the cup. Congratulations to the SCA 97 girls for having a fantastic weekend, playing unbelievable soccer. Each and every player was a big factor in each game. SCA 97 GIRLS ROCK! |
