SCA 95 Girls Ajax United Winter Invitational Finalists!

sca_95_girls_modesto_2010The SCA 95 Girls, coached by Trisha Ziemer, took 2nd place at the Ajax United Winter Invitational Soccer tournament in Modesto on January 9th and 10th.  Their first game was a tie with the California Cougars.  They won their second game 1-0 against Manteca, and their third game 4-2 against the Sacramento Mustangs. This brought them to the finals on Sunday afternoon where they lost 2-1 to Ajax United Elite. The players on the team are Alicia Angotti, Kelsey Borders, Natalie Bunch, Amy Bussell, Selena Caruso, Dayna Dolcini, Gabby George, Maddy Goertzen, Rachel Gugel, Taylor Halstenson, Cierra Iribarne, Ashley LaFranchi, Jessica Massie, Theresa Mateo, Mariah Meuse, Ashley Moffett, Jene Palmer, and Deanna Pinomaki.  Congratulations to the team and to Coach Trisha who was very proud of the girl’s accomplishment in their first tournament following high school season.  For more details on the games, read on…

After a disappointing 0-0 tie to Cal Cougars in the first game, the girls met up with Manteca.  It was a close game with a 0-0 score at halftime.  In the second half Tee Mateo scored with a pass from Ashley Moffett for a 1-0 win.  In the 3rd game, the team was down 2-1 at half time with the first goal an own goal off a cross by Alicia Angotti.  But SCA had a strong second half beginning with a goal by Cierra Iribarne off a pass from Mariah Meuse. Then Mariah had the next goal off a pass from Alicia Angotti.  The fourth goal was by Cierra with an assist by Selena Caruso for a 4-2 win.  SCA met up with their strongest competitor in the finals against home turf opponent Ajax United Elite.  The defense held them to 2-0 at halftime.  Tee was able to score in the second half off a pass from Rachel Gugel to prevent a shutout with a final score of 2-1.
