sca_99_girls_league_2009The SCA 99 Girls Black capped off an exciting fall league season by finishing first place in their league.  They won their league by beating a tough Santa Rosa United Ice team in Santa Rosa by a score of 6-4 in a very early and very cold game on Sunday, November 15th.  The girls, who are coached by Vinnie Cortezzo and Trevor White, started the game slowly and were trailing by a score of 2-1 at the half.  Eden Brooker scored the only goal for SCA in the first half.   However, in the second half, the team came alive.  Brooker scored two more goals; Tatia Dumbadse, Jennifer Massie and Hannah DeVoe also scored goals.  Brooker, Dumbadse and Amy Ferrick had assists.  Lauren Miller and Lauren Friedlander provided additional offensive power during the game.  Defensive players Markie McHugh, Gracie Thomas and Tera Ziemer played hard against a tough Ice offense.  Goalie Stacey Olson had several terrific saves that helped preserve the SCA win.  As a result of the girls finishing first in their fall league, they qualified as the number two seed for the Nor-Cal Fall League Cross-Sectional Playoffs, which were held in Union City on November 21st and 22nd.  The play-offs pitted the top eight teams from the four Northern California regions against each other.  In their first game, SCA beat a tough Mustang Velocity 3-2.  At the end of regulation, the score was tied and the game went into overtime. Brooker scored the winning goal off an assist from Dumbadse.  Thomas and Massie also had goals.  In their next game, the girls beat San Juan Spirits 1-0.  Dumbadse scored the only goal in the game off an assist from Ferrick.  In the championship game, the girls beat Davis Legacy.  After regulation, the game was tied 1-1.  Massie scored the only goal for SCA during regulation time.  After two overtime periods, the game was still tied and went to penalty kicks.  SCA prevailed 5-4 on penalty kicks.  Ziemer, Thomas, Dumbadse, Brooker and Ferrick connected on their penalty kicks for SCA.  Forwards Devoe and Miller and Defenders Friedlander and McHugh contributed to the team’s win.  Olson had another terrific weekend in goal.  Good job girls and good luck in State Cup play!
