SCA U23 Girls Win First Game of Summer League
Wednesday, 01 July 2009
On June 12th the SCA U23 Girls won their first game of the season against Santa Rosa United 3-1.  Josh Sterling’s team, now in its second year, are off to a good start with a great first win. “Although we won the league last year, SRU gave us our only lost. So, this was a good win and the girls were pumped.”
What looked to be a close game changed significantly in the second half.  0-0 at halftime, SRU scored early in the second half.  Then Nikki Poole, (SRJC) scored the first goal for SCA, Brittany Peterson (SSU) scored the 2nd goal, and Rebecca Mateo (Belmont Abbey, NC) scored the final goal to end the game at 3-1.  Lindsay Catton’s (SSU) leadership in the defense, Tracy Webster’s (SSU) relentless attack, and Ashley Luis’s (SCA’s U18 goalkeeper) outstanding performance in goal was also praised by Josh. The roster represents mostly former SCA youth players now playing for several college teams including SSU, SRJC, Belmont Abbey, Humboldt, Chico, Berry University (FL), San Francisco State, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.  For Josh this is a great opportunity to coach many of his former players, “I am excited to coach the team again. It is enjoyable and it gives our former youth players a place to train and play during the summer to get ready for college.”
