On June 14th through 17th, the SCA 92 Boys demonstrated once again what teamwork, focus and good soccer skills can do. Battling through the sweltering Central Valley heat they came within one PK of winning the U.S. Club Soccer regional championship in Modesto . The scores say a lot: they beat Patterson Barcelona 2 - 1; trounced Visalia Revolution 7 - 0; and tied Atlas Academy 1 - 1. Though SCA ceded the bracket to Atlas on point differentials, they entered the semi-finals as the wildcard selection and beat Cal Odyssey 1 - 0 in a hard-fought game. The final was played against Atlas. Through two 40-minute halves and two 10-minute overtime periods, the game stayed at 0 - 0, until it resolved with PK’s. This is a team that plays together; it’s hard to pick standouts because everyone contributes. Nonetheless, Tyler Buttke’s superlative goal keeping must be acknowleged, as well as Roberto Vargas’ ability to get the critical goal at the right time. Other team members participating in this stellar weekend of great soccer were Joe Alexander-Short, Daniel Amador, Steven Barahona, Brian Clementino, Alfredo Colin, Darwin Cortez, Chris Hennen, Diego Jaramillo, David Lecoeuche, Ruben Lopez, Thomas Murphy, Teo Pier, Matt Redeker, Wendell Scott, Zack Taylor and Kevin Werckmann. In the background was the able assistance of Andrew Ziemer and Matt Bernard, who helped with the team and pumped them up. Congratulations to coach Neil Turnbull and the entire team.
