SCA Board Meeting November 14, 2007 Lucchesi Center 1. Call to Order Present: Karla Woerner, Danny Ortega, Tony Behen, Becky Evenich, Shawna Ziemer, Don Angotti, Josh Sterling, Darryl Booker, Wes Beecham 2. Approval of Minutes 3. Treasurer’s Report: 4. Old or Unfinished Business i. DOC Contract - Sterling has his attorney looking at the contract and feels he will have a final draft ready for the Executive Board by the end of November 2007. ii. Club Brochure – Need to determine how many to print and then the use for brochure. iii. Referee Classes for Older Teams: Cost for the class is $250 for the class and $25 per player. Looking at a potential of 80 participants. Ortega: historically there has been an issue with the length of time to take the class. Thus, if consolidated then better. Angotti: if spread out over two weekends then might lose interest. Sterling: deem a week as referee week. Let kids take the class rather then train for a week. Get three instructors and have three classes of 25 each. Wes: coming out with a grade 9 for license and is an 8 hr class that allows the referee to ref any game under U14. Behen look to Sterling to create referee awareness week. Wes: schedule classes the sooner the better. Sterling will come up with dates and Wes will schedule with the trainer. Behen: would like to incorporate into club culture that we are good to referees and support their work and development. Wes: good idea to consider raising the payments to refs per game or tiering the fees paid. Has to be a system where one person isn’t constantly the center for tournaments or a day of games. Ortega: should be a discussion with Mark Englin. Should have incentives so that refs feel good being part of the club. Give thank you tokens (i.e. t-shirts or coins etc.) 6. Director’s Reports Angotti – no coordinator for Dist V winter league and thus no winter league. Sterling – how will teams be eligible for State Cup if not playing. Angotti already posed question, but will do so again at next week’s meeting. Behen: Get Argus Currier 11/14/07 because some great articles about Petaluma and Casa HS and SCA Ortega: club has worked over the year developing a club brochure. Executive Board had some input. Club looking for uses for the brochure. Would like feedback from the club – format, text, etc. and potential uses. Coming off the Barn Dance the Executive Board wanted to move forward and finalize potential date for next year to target club members and form committees. Date 9/27/08 at Lucchesi Center. Needed venue that was attractive and had more space – bigger room with all the amenities from last year. Barn Dance? The actual theme will be decided by the committee. Beecham: looking forward to being new referee coordinator. Behen: will have referee classes in the next year. Mateo: encourage participation in sending in articles and photos so that we can get into web site. Ziemer: Nor Cal State Cup this weekend. Final play date Dec 2. Final Academy Prince Park or Lucchesi. Jan 9 ice cream social u9-u14 teams. Awards. Volunteers needed. All Academy players get participation awards. Please also send Ziemer photos so that she can put together slide show. Evenich: no report Sterling: With the Academy coming to end of the season. Talking to the staff really happy with the development of the kids. There were some kinks, but if look at what was acomplished- instilling love of the game and help develop technical skills to enjoy games past youth career to be ref, coach, fan – have done a good job. Look at results see progression. Kids are having fun and going to the games outside of SCA. There were some new parts Nor Cal playing dates, 5 aside. If managers of 9’s and 10’s to share with Nor Cal, please let Sterling know so that he can bring to the Board meeting (of which he is the chair). U1-U14 all in Nor Cal Cup – everyone of teams were promoted to premier or gold. Top 20 teams in Northern Cal. Shows how teams, players are developing. U15 and up have returned from HS. U15 going to Surf Cup. Other teams going to Irvine and Nomads. College Showcase. Older kids usually always travel during Thanksgiving because important time for college recruiting. Playing at home very important and suggest utilize the program, but not imperative that this be done. Turn in the forms if participating. Did get positive input. Future of SCA. Things are continuing to move forward. Working with Windsor for SCA North. Home club at very positive place. Look at what happened with Casa and Petaluma in the high school playoffs. Look at the measuring stick which for long time has been Santa Rosa United. Looked at the last three weeks with SCA competition vs. Santa Rosa. Girls 4, 1, 1 Boys 6,1,3. Says a lot about status of club and the future of the club. The good thing is that we’re doing it without the emphasis on winning. Incorporating love of the game Winter Camp: Optional – put on by Sterling and Ziemer. This is separate from the training and a fee is to be paid. Training Camp: Dec 27, 28, 29 times will be on the web site Academy Winter program: For players who want to keep going, get 16- 75 minute sessions on Tues 4-5:30, Sat University of sports. Starts Dec 4. $150 per player if member of Univ. of Sports. Will send out again to all members. Ortega: As someone in competitive clubs for a long time, gets most satisfaction looking at where players are now. Get most satisfaction out of seeing players recruited. Never happened before with small exception of players. Opening new world to the players. A lot of interest. Will provide list of colleges where players have been recruited. Behen : will add this list to the website. Behen: announcements – Club survey is being tallied and will be presented at next meeting. If people interested in being on the board or running for open positions. Nominations at next meeting. Open: Chairman, Sr. Team Mngr, Treasurer. Anyone can run for these positions. Player assistance reprs Malina and Dennis Hernandez. Point of contact for PA issues. Questions/Comments: Brochure looked nice At the awards night, some teams will get trophies and others will get certificates. Would be nice if all players could get something more then a certificate. Ziemer looking into metals. Is a budgeting issue. How about an SCA pin?? Old Adobe school 2856 Adobe Rd, between E Washington and Casa Grande in the Library. Park in the South lot. will allow meetings at their location, 2nd Wednesday of each month. 6 to 8:45 pm. Tammy Petri secured. What happens if don’t have a district – what does she tell the families? Sterling: Have to play three official CYSA games to participate in State Cup. That will be up to the District to make sure something happens. As far as playing soccer, should be able to get games. Sterling meeting with Nor Cal in the next week. Will put together Nor Cal Premier league so that there are games. Families are feeling that the break is too long. Okay to practice through the break. Sterling suggested that the kids have at least three weeks off – if not then they have play too much soccer. Adjourned Team Rep meeting Behen: At PYSL meeting advised that SCA is negotiating with Windsor. PYSL has concerns with funding and how collected. Challenged SCA to come up with own non profit before going forward with Windsor. Sterling: researched how to complete the paperwork and get determined as a non-profit. He has the paperwork ready to be completed. Sterling: after meeting with Windsor brought info to Executive Board. Windsor Board then met and came up with a list of questions to be answered. Sterling already ans. Questions. Board given answers and then they came up with a few more. Sterling answered those as well. One question for Board to consider – length of contract? Sterling recommends a three year contract. Behen: presented Memorandum of Understanding for Sonoma County Alliance Soccer Club and Windsor Youth soccer League. Discussion ensued concerning the incorporation of SCA North in Windsor. Ortega – suggested that a representative from SCA participate in the WYSL board meetings. Behen noted that he or his designee be at the WYSL monthly meetings. DOC said he could participate quarterly. Need to have someone to answer questions regarding SCA philosophy and respond to other questions. Impact to current coaching staff – none. Have SCA coaches in that area already and the current academy staff would not change for SCA North. Who is going to be responsible for refs and fields? Need to clarify. Feedback positive so far from the members of the league. Ziemer nominated new members to board Wes Beecham Referee Coordinator and Malina and Hipaloto and Dennis Hernandez Player Assistance Coordinators. 2nd Sterling. Unanimous. Motion to approve MOU as amended between SCA and WYSL Mateo. 2nd Woerner. Discussion ensued. Unanimous. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned 9:30 p.m. |
