On July 14th and 15th, the SCA 90 Girls, coached by Josh Sterling and Chris Carniato, took First place at the Slammers tournament in Irvine, California. The girls scored 11 goals in 4 games by 7 different players, only giving up 3 goals all weekend, one a pk. The first game was a tie with Slammers North 2-2. Goals scored by Kara Cunningham and Sara Semenero. Unfortunately, shortly after scoring Kara broke her clavicle. In the next game, SCA defeated the Hotspurs USA 2-1, with goals scored by Alyssa Banaugh and Erin Doherty. Then SCA defeated SCU Extreme 5-0 with goals scored by Alyssa, Sara, Erin, DJ Garcia, Shelby Stambaugh, and Arsenal 2-0, with goals by Sarah and Christine Kearney. The girl’s last game was one of their best games despite being tired. Josh noted, “I am proud of the way the girls played this weekend. We played nice soccer, controlled all the games and scored multiple goals in every game. We have been playing pretty well, but had little to show for it. So, this Championship at a tournament hosted by one of the top club’s in the Nation is great. We had great performances from many players, but we had excellent performances from Christine Kearny and Sara Semenero in the midfield and in the defense Daniela Kozar was rock solid.” Congratulations to all the girls who attend the tournament including, Christine Kearney, Megan Kendall, Daniela Kozar, Cleo Chappelle, Sarah Semenero, Sarah McSweeney, Sarah Stephenson, Alyssa Banaugh, Britney Finitz, Kara Cunningham, DJ Garcia, Kylee Adams, and Shelby Stambaugh. Special thanks to guest players Erin and Lacey Doherty from UCSB.
