| SCA 93 Girls Take 2nd Place at Cal Cup |

 On June 29th through July 1st the SCA 93 girls, coached by Trevor White, beat out 10 other teams to make it into the finals at Cal Cup in Sacramento. Coach Trevor stated, “I am very proud on how his girls played all weekend, and to make it into the finals at Cal Cup and beat out 10 other top is a great achievement.” The girl’s first game ended in a 3-0 victory against San Juan 93 White. Goals were scored by Savanna Scheiner (2) and Taylor Derby. Their second game against Davis Extreme ended in a 2-1 win with goals from Nicole Stave and Allie Teel. Their third game against Manteca ended in a 2-1 loss with one goal from Nicole Stave with an assist from Colette Behen. This put them in first place in their bracket. In the Quarterfinals they played Bay Oaks with a win of 1-0. Goal scored by Savanna Scheiner. This brought them to the Semi-finals against a very physical Dublin team. Within the first 5 minutes of play SCA had chances at goals that either went wide or just skimmed the cross bar. SCA was dominating the game and kept possession with really nice passing. Finally after numerous shots on goal from SCA, Gabby Sheenan scored a lovely goal from a well-placed pass by Rebecca Yim. With minutes remaining Dublin had some luck on their side and scored to make the final score of 1-1. This brought the game to pk’s. Dublin took the first pk but with outstanding reflexes, goalie Ashley Luis saved it. This was a great start for our girls. SCA nailed all of their pk’s with no problems. Pk takers for SCA were Margie, Rebecca Y, Savanna, and Allie. Dublin missed one more pk giving SCA the well-deserved win and into the Finals against old rival, Santa Rosa Gold. The final game was very exciting and fast with both teams challenging every ball. The score remained 0-0 at half time. Then SR came out and caught SCA off guard to score 2 goals. SCA battled hard and didn't give up but the score remained 2-0 for SR. Awesome play from all the girls especially goalie Ashley Luis who showed no mercy for the opposing team. The team players include: Taylor Derby, Colette Behen, Ashley Luis, McKenna Moy, Margi Osmundson, Hannah Boswell, Rebecca Yim, Savanna Scheiner, Gabriela Sheehan, Nicole Stave, Chloe Welch, Camala James, Alexandra Teel, Hailey Grady, Rebecca Martinez and Ashley Merceri. |
