Wednesday, 13 June 2007
ImageOn June 9th and 10th, the SCA 90 Girls, coached by Chris Carniato, took second place at the Eagles Classic in Ventura, California.  The road to the finals was hard fought as the girls’ lost their first game to the Star’s Red 2-1; Alyssa Banaugh scored the goal. The second game of the tournament against Anahuak ended in a 9-0 win by SCA.  Goals were scored by Rebecca Mateo, Hannah Lane, Natalee Simon, Melissa Madrid and Lexus Humphrey. This brought the team into the semi-finals to play the host team, Eagle’s Blue. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.  The win for SCA was decided by pk’s.  Erika Chavez was in goal for SCA and made some amazing saves.  The championship game pitted SCA against the Star’s Red team again.  The final outcome was a 3-1 loss for SCA; Rebecca Mateo scored the one goal on a free kick.  Also in the final game, center back Gaby Witte made the ultimate sacrifice.  When going up for a header, she broke her nose on the head of her opponent.  The team celebrated at the hospital with Gaby before heading home.  It was a great early season tournament for the team, which included Kiera Woerner, Hannah Lane, Rebecca Mateo, Cleo Chappell, Lindsey Snow, Colleen McNamee, Gaby Witte, Erika Chavez, Annie Stahr, Alyssa Banaugh and 3 guest players, Lexus Humphrey, Melissa Madrid, and Natalee Simon.
