SCA 93 Boys Defeat Burlingame Arsenal 5-1, Get Ready for Oregon
Monday, 21 May 2007
In a tune-up for their trip to Medford, Oregon over Memorial Day weekend to defend the championship they won last year in the Rogue Valley Cup, the SCA 93 Boys split a pair of NorCal Premier league games on Sunday at windy Lucchesi Park.  In the afternoon game, SCA netted its first win of the season, defeating the Burlingame Arsenal 5-1. Michael Gotham scored two goals, one on a header off a corner kick by Brian Clementino, and assisted on two other goals. His beautiful one-touch pass to Eli Munger gave SCA a 1-0 lead two minutes into the contest. Chris Hennen and Benjamin Tarango tallied the other goals for SCA. Austin Kois' assist set up Tarango with the final goal of the game. In the morning match, SCA couldn't overcome a 2-0 deficit in the game's first eight minutes nor five first-half offsides calls in a 4-3 loss to the Mid-Peninsula Strikers from Menlo Park. SCA goalie Connor Zitelli made two sprawling saves in the first half to keep the score close and teammate Hugo Zuniga scored three goals coming off the bench in the second half. SCA nearly rallied to tie the game at 2-2 when Munger lifted a volley over Strikers goalie Alex Valdovinous, who had scrambled out of 18-yard box, but Strikers' defender Kyle Scherba hustled back to clear the shot inches before it rolled over the goal line. Gabe Rood filled in for Ben Ziemer and Ian Mork on Sunday to coach the team. SCA, 1-2 in league play, will travel to Medford on Friday to play two tournament games on Saturday and Sunday. Last year, they won five games over three days to claim the tourney title.
