The SCA 94 Girls, coached by Trisha Ziemer, beat out 40 other teams to make it to the NorCal Cup finals against the DVSC 93 Samba, US Club Soccer State Champions. The girls were in the Premier bracket with the top 8 seeded teams. On Saturday December 16th the girls played in the Semi-finals against Placer United 94 Gold. SCA played an awesome game, with lots of shots at goal and hitting the cross bar many times. Rebecca Yim scored a great goal in the first half from a lovely cross by Michelle Garrone. Noelle had an outstanding game against DVSC. Both teams had many chances but SCA proved to be the stronger team and secured their 1-0 win to move onto the finals the next day. The girls were fired up and determined to go out and play one of their best games. They knew that this would be a challenging match against a very talented DVSC team. SCA played excellent soccer with every girl marking tight and moving fast to challenge every ball. Both teams played very strong defensively. After the final whistle, the score remained at 0-0. Following a short break, the girls went out again to play two 5-minute halves. With a minute remaining DVSC had a chance to shoot and, sure enough, it made it the back of the net. The final score was 1-0 for the opponents. This was an exciting game and could have easily gone SCA's way. To play in such a tight game against the State Champs is an accomplishment in itself. Chris Carniato (Yato) coached the girls for both games while Trish was in Europe. Yato said the girls made him look like a genius and that they did all the work themselves. Coaches and parents are very proud of the girl’s hard work and achievements.
In the last few months the SCA 94 girls have taken first place in two tournaments, Soccer By The Bay in San Francisco and the Sonoma County Classic in Petaluma. They also have a couple of second place wins in other tournaments and they took second in District V league play this season. Congratulations girls and Trish! All the girls deserve a mention; Nicole Beecham, Avrey Cushman, Kayla Elliott, Michelle Garrone, Lyndsay Gehring, Aubrey Hagens, Michelle Katuna, Michelle King, Noelle LaPrevotte, Kali Patterson, Ashley Patton, Caley Johnson, Annie Studdert, Ashley Torres, and Rebecca Yim.
