On September 2nd and 3rd, the SCA 95 Girls, coached by Vinnie Cortezzo, defeated Santa Rosa United Blue, the Manteca FC Eagles, and Elk Grove Blue to get highest points in their flight. They met up with Elk Grove again in the Championship game only to lose 2-1 to place second in the tournament. The first game against Santa Rosa ended 2-0 with a goal by Jene Palmer and another by Iris Dayton with an assist by Mariah Meuse. The second game against Manteca ended 8-1 with goals by Emily Conroy (assist by Gabby George), Rachel Gugel, Iris (Emily assisted), Iris (Jenny Saxton assisted), Mariah (Gabby assisted), Gabby, Taylor Halstenson (Iris assisted) and Gabby (Emily assisted). The next game against Elk Grove was a tough one. Theresa Mateo scored first for SCA with an assist by Iris. Then Elk grove scored. But then Iris, with an assist by Natalie Bunch, went on to score one more for the win. In the Championship game, Elk Grove came out strong to score 2 goals in the first half. However in the second half, SCA kept Elk Grove from scoring again and Gabby scored for SCA with an assist by Alayna Jay. Great job by every girl on the team, which also includes, Courtney Booth, Dayna Dolcini, Alicia Angotti, Aimee Guy, Cierra Iribarne, and Ashley Moffett. Many of the girls were called upon to play multiple positions this weekend and stepped up to the plate.
