SCA 94 GIRLS TAKE 1st PLACE IN THE 1ST ANNUAL SOCCER BY THE BAY TOURNAMENT
Wednesday, 06 September 2006
ImageOn August 19th and 20th, the SCA 94 Girls, coached by Trisha Ziemer, became the 2006 Soccer by the Bay Champions!!  They defeated the SCC Breakers 3-1, the United Spirits 1-0, the Alpine Menlo Sting 4-0 and finally the Peninsula Blast in the Championship game 1-0.  After taking 3rd in their last Tournament the girls were not going home with anything less than the Champions title and they did. Great play from every single girl on the team. The parents and coach are extremely proud of how all of the girls played tough, fair, and with passion. The girls won all 4 games and only allowed 1 goal all weekend. Our awesome defense and midfield were once again the powerhouse for our forwards. They consist of goalie, Ashley Torres, who, as usual made some great saves over the weekend. Michelle King is our new 2nd goalie and is proving herself every game. Good job girls. Great defenders, Michelle Katuna, Michelle King, Caley Johnson, Avrey Cushman, Aubrey Hagens, and Kayla Elliott worked so hard and played some very nice soccer. Ours solid midfielders are Lyndsay Gehring, Noelle LaPrevotte, and Michelle Garrone. Our forwards are Rebecca Yim, Annie Studdert, Nicole Beecham, Ashley Patton, and Kali Patterson. On Saturday the girls came out strong to beat SCC Breakers 3-1. Goals scored were by Rebecca (1) with an assist from Lyndsay.  Annie  (1) with and assist from Lyndsay, and Michelle G (1) with an assist from Rebecca. The second game against United Spirit ended 1-0. This was a very close game and SCA needed the win against Spirits to secure first place in their bracket. The girls had many chances but it wasn't going their way. With minutes remaining SCA won a PK from a handball in the box.  Noelle took the PK and scored.  Sunday morning the girls were fired up and ready to go.  They beat the Alpine Menlo Sting 4-0.  Goals scored for this game were by Rebecca (1) with an assist from Annie, Annie (1) with an assist from Ashley P, and Kali (2).  Kali scored a beautiful header from Rebecca's corner kick. Kali scored the final goal from a breakaway.

The Championship game was 1-0 win for SCA against the Peninsula Blast. The girls dominated most of the game and took shot after shot. With seconds on the clock, Michelle Katuna sent a lovely ball up to Rebecca in the box.  Ashley P was set up perfectly for Rebecca to pass to.  Ashley finished the shot with a nice goal.  Great win for the girls and Trisha.  Congratulations and well deserved.  Keep up the good work girls. !!
