| SCA 97 GIRLS BLACK WIN AT SSU’s PUMA – SEAWOLF CUP |
| Thursday, 20 July 2006 | |
On Sunday, July 9th, SCA's 97 Girls Black, along side coach Vinnie Cortezzo, showed that they have what it takes to go all the way. After a 5-1 win over Santa Rosa United in the semi-finals, SCA beat the Mustangs 1-0 in the championship game. Most of the game was spent battling at 0-0, watching both teams make great offensive and defensive plays, and saves by both goalies that make your heart stand still. Finally, with two minutes left on the clock, Sarah Rabbit quickly passed the ball towards the goal box to Sierra Overton where she beat two defenders and placed a shot past their goalie. Playing to defend at all costs, the girls battled for the last 120 seconds. With strong defensive plays, amazing saves by goalie Delaney Frye, and a lucky cross bar. The girls held on to win the game.
Though their first game was a loss against the same team they beat in the finals, the girls quickly figured out the 6v6 playing style and went on to win the rest of their games. They played hard all day long against teams such as Mustangs (2-4) and (1-0), Rohnert Park (10-1), Sacramento (4-3), and Santa Rosa United (5-1).
