SCA 92 Girls Take 1st Place at Cal Cup!
Monday, 26 June 2006
ImageOn June 17th, 18th, and 19th, the 92 Girls took 1st place in the U15 Girl’s division of Cal Cup in Sacramento, winning all five games.  As coach Vinnie Cortezzo so aptly noted, the 92 Girls are 16 very fine soccer players as well as extraordinary young ladies.  They scored early and often with a 14 goal differential over the tournament (16 goals for and 2 against).  The 92 Girls defeated the following teams: Elk Grove 5-0, Davis 2- 0, Mustang Strikers 2-0, SRU Gold 3-1 (semi-final) and San Juan Spirits Blue 4-1 (final).  Goals were scored by Natalee Simon, Melissa Madrid, Lexus Humphrey, Maggie Dezendorf, Kirsten (Sparky) Hilbert, Lauren Beauchamp, Kirstin (Twink) Holmberg, and Hannah Farazmand.

For the assists, there were a number of beautiful crosses by Melissa Madrid, Lexus Humphry, and Natalee Simon.  An awesome shot by Jessica Heitman turned into a beautiful header.  Lizzie Mitchell’s consistent corner kicks resulted in a number of chances and a couple of goals.  There were several through balls from the midfield (Maggie, Sparky, Hannah, Lauren, Twink) that found the forwards (Natalee, Melissa, Lexus, Sparky, Katie Behm).  The airtight defense was anchored by Carolyn Upton in goal, Taylor Gehring, Jessica (Big Dog) Heitman, Lizzie Mitchell, Theresa Devine, Danielle Stave, and Mary Pyne.  Congratulations girls!

SCA had 8 girls’ teams participating in Cal Cup.  The clubs total record for the weekend was 12 wins, 8 losses, and 4 ties.  The 93 girls did very well, loosing in the semi-finals to San Juan Spirits Blue.
