Last weekend, three younger SCA teams, the 93,  94 and 95 Girls teams advanced out of the first round of the State Cup. The SCA 93 Boys, unbeaten in the first round, narrowly missed the second round and the 94 Girls White team played well, losing two close games and tying their last.
The 93 Boys coached by Gabe Rude went unbeaten through the first round with a record of 1 win, 0 losses and 2 ties.  The boys won their first game 2-0 over PXSC gold.  In the second game of group play the 93 Boys led most of the way, unfortunately Novato was able to score the tying goal in the last minute of  play.  In the last game the 93 Boys dominated play but came away with a tie vs MRFC Manchester United 1-1.

The 95 Girls coached by Benjamin Ziemer advanced to the round of 16 with a record of 2 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.  The 95 Girls went unbeaten scoring 6 goals and allowing none.  The girls opened play with a 0-0 tie vs the favored California Odyssey.  In the second game of the day the girls exploded, scoring five goals in route to a 5-0 victory over San Juan. In the final game of group play the girls beat Pleasanton Rage 1-0.

The 94 Girls coached by Trish Ziemer won all three games in group play scoring 4 goals, allowing none.  The girls opened play with a 1-0 win over Santa Clara Sporting.  In the second game of the day the girls beat Novato Magic 1-0.  On Sunday the 94 Girls wrapped up the group with a 2-0 win over WCSC Hurricanes.

The 94 Girls white team coached by Chris Daly played well but were unable to come away with the results they had hoped for.  The girls lost 1-3 to the eventual group winners, Union City Devils.  The game was tied 1-1with just five minutes to play, unfortunately the Devils found a way to break down the 94 girls defense, scoring twice in the last few minutes.  In the second game of the group the girls lost a hard fought game 0-1 to the Vacaville Thunderbirds.  In the last game of the group the girls created many chances, but were unable to convert any into goals.  The game ended in a 0-0 tie vs  Delta Storm.

The 93 Girls coached by Vinnie Cortezzo won all three games advancing from the first round of State Cup for the third straight year.  The 93 Girls scored 6 goals and allowed only 1.  In the first game of group play the girls dominated play, creating many goal scoring chances however at the half the team found itself behind 0-1. Throughout the second half, the girls continued to have the run of play, but still no goals.  With four minutes to play the 93 Girls finally broke through, scoring the tying goal.  Then less than a minute later, the girls scored again for a 2-1 win over Alpine Menlo Pumas.  In the second game of group play the girls broke out with a 3-0 win over 49er United.  In the last game the 93 Girls pulled out a 1-0 victory over Merced United.

All three teams moving on will be playing in the Round of Sixteen on February 11th at The Morgan Hill Soccer complex.
